Audition Video Rules

Rules

1. Each team must have between 10 and 20 roster members on the AV roster and in the audition video. 2. 100% of the audition video dancers must be present in the video at all times, and their full bodies must be visible, even if standing on the side. Dancers are allowed to switch in and out. 3. 100% of dancers in the audition video must be listed on Ekta. At least 65% of the roster members listed on Ekta must be performing during the season. For example, if a team has 20 AV roster members, 13 of those members must be listed on the team roster during the season. 4. For fall competitions, the audition video must be between 1:30-2:30 minutes of continuous Garba/Raas (including transitions between pieces), with a 30-45 second minimum garba requirement. For spring competitions, the audition video must be between 2:00-2:30 minutes of continuous Garba/Raas dancing (including transitions between pieces), with a 30-60 second Garba Requirement. 5. The routine performed must reflect the current routine that is intended to be performed at each competition. 6. Different colored shirts must be worn to allow for visualization. For example, half the dancers may wear black while the other half may wear white throughout the entire video. 7. Camera must be fixed. There can only be one camera angle (front and center), and it cannot be zoomed or panned. A wide angle is permitted (0.5) 8. All formations must be visible. 9. The video must be good quality (720p or above). 10. The audio must be good quality – audio overlay is strongly recommended. 11. If roster members' names are audible in the raw audio, then audio overlay is required. 12. The video must either be MP4 or MOV file format. 13. Each team must provide a Google Drive link to view and download an audition video. File name must be in the following format: TeamName_CompetitionName_AuditionVideo.

Restrictions

1. Previous routines or performances will not be considered.​ 2. College/university or team affiliated items must not be worn, visible, or audible in the video. This includes, but is not limited to: logo, mascot, symbol, slogan, colors, roster members' names, etc. 3. No costumes or props are allowed in the video, except dandiyas. 4. No stunts, themes, dialogue, or voice overs are permitted. 5. No intro/outro videos are permitted. 6. The video cannot be edited (must be continuous). 7. The video cannot have any special lighting or visual effects.

Audition Video Rules

Viewing
Rules

​Unless explicit permission is given otherwise by Raas All-Stars Judging Chairs, the following rules apply for the judging chair and the audition video judging process: 1. The team selection and audition video viewing process for the competition must be completely blind and randomized.  2. The judging chair (or whoever is randomizing audition videos if not them) may not be an audition video judge for the team selection process. 3. The judging chair and audition video judges should review all team guidelines, the rubric, and attend a required training before viewing audition videos. 4. The judging chair and audition video judges may not: - Be on a roster member of any raas-garba team (i.e., dancer, manager, or any other affiliation) in the 2025-2026 season - Be previously or currently affiliated with a team that has applied to that competition - Judge at any 2025-2026 bid competition or at Raas All-Stars XVIII 5. Audition video judges and judging chairs are not allowed to disclose any information about teams’ audition videos or other sensitive information to anyone. 6. An audition video judge may only judge audition videos for 1 competition. 7. There must be exactly 5 audition video judges for a competition.

Standard Acceptance
Release (SAR)

General

Competitions will be responsible for adhering to this timeline. Failure to follow this may result in flagging of the competition or other consequences.

Teams may not drop from a lineup after accepting a spot during the SAR. If a team chooses to drop from a lineup after acceptance, they will be required to forfeit all bid competitions. It will be up to the competition’s discretion whether the team will face a monetary penalty for dropping out of the lineup.

Timeline

November 15th, 2025 4:00 PM CST: Bid comps will provide RAS with a list of teams in their first round of acceptances and subsequent waitlist. November 16th, 2025 11:59 PM CST: RAS will notify all teams via email regarding their acceptances and waitlist positions. Teams have a 48 hour window to respond to the bid competition. November 18th, 2025 11:59 PM CST: Teams must respond to the bid competitions by this date regarding acceptances/rejections to their lineup. November 19th, 2025 4:00 PM CST: Bid comps will provide RAS with a list of teams in their second round of acceptances subsequent waitlist. November 19th, 2025 11:59 PM CST: RAS will notify all teams via email regarding their acceptances and waitlist positions. Teams have a 48 hour window to respond to the bid competition. November 21st, 2025 11:59 PM CST: Teams must respond to the bid competitions by this date regarding acceptances/rejections to their lineup. November 23rd, 2025 4:00 PM CST: Bid comps will provide RAS with a list of teams in their third round of acceptances subsequent waitlist. November 23rd, 2025 11:59 PM CST: RAS will notify all teams via email regarding their acceptances and waitlist positions. Teams have a 24 hour window to respond to the bid competition. November 24th, 2025 11:59 PM CST: Teams must respond to the bid competitions by this date regarding acceptances/rejections to their lineup. November 25th, 2025 12:00 AM CST - November 29th, 2025 11:59 PM CST: After third wave, bid comps will work with their waitlist teams to complete the rest of their lineup if necessary. You may ask RAS for assistance! Official lineup MUST be submitted by the end of this period.

Categories

1. Choreography (10 points)

  • Do they use varied and complex types of arm, foot, and head movements throughout the performance?

  • Does the choreography make sense with the pace and feel of the music?

  • Are the transitions between the movements smooth?

2. Formations (10 points)

  • ​Are formations unique, difficult and complex?

  • Do the formations complement the choreography?

  • Do they seamlessly flow from one to the next? 

  • Was there effective use of stage space?

​

3. Energy/Grace (10 points)

  • Does the team maintain a high level of energy throughout the performance?

  • Is the energy and grace consistent amongst the team members?

  • ​How well does the team display control with their movements?

  • Do they look natural while dancing?

​

4. Synchronization/Cleanliness (10 points)

  • How synchronized does the team look with the music, and as a group overall?

  • Are there dancers who stick out for not dancing on the same level as the rest of the team?

  • Did dancers finish their moves?

  • Does the team have coordinated head and body movements?

5. Overall Impression (10 points)

  • What is your overall impression of the performance?

  • How much WOW factor does the performance have?
